PGW has a robust methane reduction program, including accelerated cast iron main replacement, services replacement, and damage prevention which have reduced 9,200 metric tons of methane emissions to date. Every year PGW replaces over 30 miles of mature, cast iron reducing methane escape to zero along the way.
- Since 2008, PGW’s recycling program has diverted over 1,500 tons of waste from landfills.
- Paperless Conversion: PGW has transitioned its procurement process, customer assistance applications and customer billing online.
- PGW is a proud Zero Waste Partner with the City of Philadelphia.
- PGW’s onsite Data Center is integrated into our Combined Heat and Power system – the data center is cooled using CHP’s exhaust heat and half the data center’s power is generated by CHP. The new data center saves over 440,000 kWh of energy annually.
- PGW employs LED lighting at several facilities which has saved over 250,000 kWh of electricity annually to date.
- PGW replaced its cooling tower at its corporate headquarters, improving water efficiency and saving over 140,000 kWh of electricity annually.
- PGW has a fleet of 24 compressed natural gas (CNG) vehicles while continuing to purchase more fuel-efficient vehicles.
- PGW’s fleet is equipped with GPS/automated vehicle location services to improve driving efficiencies.
- Employees are permitted to telecommute and offered savings incentives on public transportation and bicycling.
